Abstract
Abstract: In this research plasma nitriding of pure aluminium and effect of iron elemental alloy on the formation and growth of aluminium nitride was investigated. Also corrosion properties of formed AlN were investigated. After preparation, the samples were plasma nitrided at 550oC, for 6, 9 and 12 h and a gas mixture of 25%H2-75%N2. The microstructure and phases analysis were investigated using scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. Moreover corrosion resistance of samples was investigated using polarization techniques. The results showed that only a compound layer was formed on the surface of samples and no diffusion zone was detected. Dominant phase in compound layer was AlN. Scanning electron microscopy results showed that nitride layer has particulate structure. These nitrided particles have grown columnar and perpendicular to the surface. It was also observed that the existence of iron in the samples increases the nitrogen diffusion, thus growth rate of iron containing nitrides are higher than the others. Corrosion tests results showed that formation of an aluminium nitride layer on the surface of aluminium decreases the corrosion resistance of aluminium significantly. This is due to elimination of surface oxide layer and propagation of cracks in the formed nitride layer

Abstract
C-SiC composites with carbon-based mesocarbon microbeads (MCMB) preforms are new type of highpreformance and high-temperature structural materials for aerospace applications. In this study MCMB-SiC composites with high density (2.41 g.cm-3) and high bending strength (210 MPa,) was prepared by cold isostatic press of mixed mesophase carbon powder derived from mesophase pitch with different amount (0, 2.5, 5%) nano SiC particles. All samples were carbonized under graphite bed until 1000 °C and finally liquid silicon infiltration (LSI). Microstructure observations resultant samples were performed by scanning electron microscopy and transition electron microscopy (SEM & TEM). Density, porosity and bending strength of final samples were also measured and calculated. Results indicates that the density of samples with nano additive increased significantly in compare to the free nano additives samples.

Abstract
In this paper, the possibility of mechanical coating of aluminum with either Ni or SiC using planetary ball
mill was studied. The Al substrate was fixed inside of the vial lid of a planetary ball mill filled with milling balls and
starting powder. The phase analysis and crystallite size measurement of the coatings were carried out using X-ray
diffraction (XRD) method. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) was employed to study the coating/substrate interface
and coating thickness. Hardness and wear resistance of coatings were also measured. The results indicated that all
coatings have relatively uniform thickness. SiC coating shows poor compaction and adhesion to the Al, while nanostructured Ni coating is well-bonded to the substrate. Moreover, Ni coating showed higher hardness and wear
resistance compared to SiC coating. It was found that the balls collision will result in the grain refinement of the
coating as well as Al substrate. Mechanically deposited Ni coating shows higher hardness value compared to those
obtained by conventional methods. This has been related to the induced grain refinement phenomenon.

Abstract
The inherent reactivity of the Al–Cu alloys is such that their use for structural, marine, and aerospace components and structures would not be possible without prior application of a corrosion resistance system. Historically these corrosion resistance coatings were based on the use of chemicals containing Cr (VI) compounds. Silane coatings are of increasing interest in industry due to their potential application for the replacement of current toxic hexavalent chromate based treatments. In this study, hydrophobic coating sol was prepared with methyltriethoxysilane (MTES), methanol (MeOH), and water (as 7M NH4OH) at a molar ratio of 1:25:4.31 respectively. The coatings were applied by a dip-technique to 2024-T3 Al alloy, and subsequently cured at room temperature and there after heat treated in an oven at 150°C. The anticorrosion properties of the coatings within 3.5 wt% NaCl solution were studied by Tafel polarization technique. The sol–gel coating exhibited good anticorrosion properties providing an adherent protection film on the Al 2024-T3 substrate. The surface properties were characterized by water contact angle measurement, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the composition was studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR).

Abstract
This study focuses on the physical, magnetic, biological and antibacterial behaviour of cobalt-doped HAp powder samples. Pure and Cobalt- doped HAp nanoparticles were synthesized by hydrothermal method. Calcium nitrate, di- ammonium hydrogen phosphate and cobalt nitrate were used as precursor materials. The synthesized powders were characterized using x-ray diffraction pattern (XRD), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), Raman spectroscopy as well as MTT assay and cell adhesion test. Disc diffusion method was used to investigate antibacterial activity of the samples. The results confirmed the substitution of Ca by Co ions in the HAp lattice. In addition, this substitution induced size reduction and morphology change in HAp particles. All cobalt substituted HAp powder samples displayed paramagnetic properties, as opposed to the diamagnetic behaviour observed in the pure HAp samples. In addition, these nanoparticles exhibited cell adhesion, biocompatibility and antibacterial activity against S.aureus bacteria.
